Clematis Montana - Clematis montana
Clematis montana is the one to choose if you want to cover something properly. It's the most vigorous of all the climbing clematis, and in late spring every stem disappears under a mass of small, scented flowers in white or pink. It's one of those moments in the garden that genuinely stops people in their tracks.
Native to the mountains of Asia from the Himalayas to China, montana meaning mountain, it's fully hardy, tolerant of a wide range of conditions, and requires almost no intervention once established. Unlike most clematis, it doesn't need regular pruning. Just let it get on with things and it will cover a wall, fence, arch, or tree with minimum fuss.
One important pruning note: montana flowers on the previous season's growth. If you do need to cut it back, do so immediately after flowering, not before, or you'll lose next year's display.
Grow in sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Keep the roots cool and shaded by covering the base with other plants or a layer of pebbles. Plant with the crown a few centimetres below the soil surface to encourage strong growth. Provide a support for it to climb. Note: skin irritant when handling, so wear gloves.

If you'd like to return a living item, let the team know within 30 days by emailing info@leafenvy.co.uk or live chat if online. Please attach a photo of the faulty or damaged plant. Other items can be returned for a refund within 30 days as long as they're unused and in re-saleable condition. Please note that return costs are the responsibility of the customer.
