What is Earth Hour & Why Is It Important?

Earth Hour is an annual event that began in 2007, where people around the world turn off non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour as a symbolic gesture to raise awareness about climate change and the need to take action to reduce our impact on the environment. Earth Hour is usually held on the last Saturday in March, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM local time. During this time, people are encouraged to switch off lights, televisions, and other appliances in their homes and businesses to show their commitment to environmental sustainability. The event is organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and has grown to become a global movement with millions of participants in over 190 countries.

At Leaf Envy, we are focused on not only becoming carbon neutral, but carbon negative. From day 1, we prioritised green processes and practices, but there's still lots more to do and we are working on some exciting projects at the moment which will further our sustainability values and ethos. Watch this space!

Currently, we use Carbon neutral delivery services, run our fulfilment centre on renewable energy, use 100% recyclable and biodegradable packaging and work with the Eden Reforestation Project to support and promote global reforestation and restoration. There are many ways in which businesses can become more sustainable. Here are some other ways Businesses can bring Sustainability into their everyday practice:

The aim of Earth Hour is not only to reduce energy consumption during the hour, but also to inspire people to take action beyond the event itself. By participating in Earth Hour, individuals and organisations can demonstrate their support for sustainable energy and environmental practices, and encourage others to do the same. Earth Hour serves as a reminder that small individual actions, when taken collectively, can have a significant impact on the environment. It is a way for people to show their commitment to creating a more sustainable future for our planet, and to encourage governments and businesses to take action on climate change.

By adopting these practices, businesses can reduce their environmental impact and reduce their carbon footprint that contributes to global warming. Share these ideas with your employee to raise awareness and let's make this planet a greener, happier place together!

Support sustainable energy and environmental practices

1

Reduce Energy Consumption

We adopt energy-efficient practices such as installing LED lighting, upgrading to energy-efficient appliances and equipment, using renewable energy sources such as solar panels, and implementing smart energy management systems. By reducing energy consumption, businesses can save money on utility bills while also reducing their carbon footprint.

2

Promote Sustainable Transportation

Businesses can encourage employees to use sustainable transportation options such as cycling, walking, or public transportation, by providing incentives such as bike racks, public transport subsidies or providing shuttle services. Additionally, companies can encourage the use of electric or hybrid vehicles in their fleets to reduce carbon emissions.

3

Implement Sustainable Supply Chain Practices

Businesses can adopt sustainable supply chain practices such as sourcing materials from environmentally responsible suppliers, reducing waste in the production process, and using recycled materials. These practices can help to reduce the environmental impact of the business's operations and improve the sustainability of their products and services.
