Chusan Palm - Trachycarpus fortunei
The Chusan Palm is the hardiest of all the fan palms and the one that surprises people most. Everyone assumes it'll struggle in a British winter. It doesn't. Mature specimens handle temperatures well below -10°C, and some have been growing in UK gardens for decades without so much as a fleece. It's the closest thing to a truly carefree outdoor palm you'll find.
Native to central and eastern China, Trachycarpus fortunei develops a distinctive fibrous, hairy trunk over time, topped with large, deeply divided fan-shaped leaves that can reach a metre across. It grows a little faster than most palms, adding real presence to a garden over a few seasons.
This plant is also known as the Windmill Palm and the Chinese Windmill Palm.
Plant in full sun or lightly dappled shade in well-drained, fertile soil. Shelter from strong or drying winds as the leaves can shred in exposed positions. Water regularly while establishing; once settled, it's relatively low maintenance. Feed in spring and summer.

If you'd like to return a living item, let the team know within 30 days by emailing info@leafenvy.co.uk or live chat if online. Please attach a photo of the faulty or damaged plant. Other items can be returned for a refund within 30 days as long as they're unused and in re-saleable condition. Please note that return costs are the responsibility of the customer.
